Keeping Track

I decided to do two things this year.  The first is to keep a record of all the movies I have watched for the year.  The second is to go through and watch the entire AFI 100.  I love movies.  I watch them all the time.  I realized, though, that there are a ton of classics I have never seen.  I figured the quick fix for this would be to watch the top 100 American movies as voted by the American Film Institute, the list of which you can find right here.

Looking at the list at the beginning of the year, I realized that I was at an even 50/50.  Even then, some of the ones I have seen I have only watched once when I was a child and have pretty much no recollection of it.  Some of these I am excited to revisit (Jaws, Unforgiven, Dr. Strangelove), some I am dreading revisiting (Forrest Gump, Titanic, Sixth Sense) but dammit, I will watch them all.  Even Schindler's List.

When I first decided to do this, I was only going to do 99, skipping out on Schindler's List.  Not that it's a bad movie, it's just a hard one to watch. It has always been a one and done kind of movie for me.  But knowing how I tend to be a completest I will watch it again.

I also have to say that I am lucky to be living somewhere where doing this is easy.  A handful of these films are on Netflix, and another handful I own.  For the rest, between the Round Rock and Austin libraries I am pretty much set.  Also, the Austin library has many of these classics on blu-ray.  So due to the fact that a lot of what I watch is going to be subject to availability,  I will not be watching these in order.  I also don't want to start with the best and work my way down.  I want to mix the quality up a bit.  Also, I'll want to watch Godfather 1 and 2 back to back, or do a double feature of like genres.  Whatever.  The point is they will be shuffled around.

Also, in keeping track with all the movies I watch, you'll notice the occasional chunk of like movies.  We tend to do marathons around here, i.e. an Elvis marathon or a Kurt Russell marathon, both of which we do on their birthdays.  That's just how we do things around here.

ETA: In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm just editing this one post to add each movie I watch.

Here is my list so far, color coded and updated to today.
